This isn’t the average data center event that you’ll normally find in a hotel conference room. The Nordic Digital Business Summit comes to life each year in the industrial surroundings of Helsinki’s old Cable Factory, Kaapelitehdas. High technology meets traditional industry in this amazing venue unlike any other.

And it’s not just the surroundings that are special because the Nordic Digital Business Summit brings together two events within one venue. You’re free to stay within the yin of Nordic DC & Cloud 2016 all day, or explore the yang of IoT & Digitalization to meet global giants and rising stars driving progress in the Internet of Things across the Nordics.

  • 9:20 - Digitization - Drivers, Trends, and the Internet of Things

Bas Boorsma, Director, Internet of Things & City Digitization North Europe, Cisco

  • 9:45 - Edge computing trends

    Anna Podgornaya, Schneider Electric

Edge computing is the next step in the evolution of efficient data networks. In recent years all focus has been on cloud computing driven by the speed, scale and the cost value of moving to the cloud solutions. Now we see major global players moving in a new direction. They are moving to the edge of the network because of the challenges in the centralized cloud network architecture such as latency, bandwidth and compliance. Edge computing might very well be best the answer to these challenges.

  • 8:00 - Registration, Coffee & Exhibition

Arrive early, grab a coffee from our baristas and explore the exhibition area. Don't forget to use our networking system to schedule a few quick meetings.

  • 9:20 - LizardFS - a new distributed file system for mid-sized and big customers and platform providers

    Philip Torchinsky, Keepdev

Scalability is a key feature of distributed file systems, and there is one which works well with thousands users from different platforms simultaneously. LizardFS is an open source solution which can handle more than 1 billion files on a multi-petabytes distributed storage, providing additional disk space to the client at the very moment when another server is connected.

  • 9:40 - Cloud is the new shadow IT: ready or not, preparing for mass adoption driven by business innovation and consumerization

Daniel Downing, Head of Microsoft and Productivity Platforms, Tieto Managed Services

As a large service provider, Tieto sees the journey to the cloud that most of our customers are making. Cloud enables much faster time to market, supporting the fail fast, fail forward culture. Similar to Shadow IT before, we see the business wanting to adopt the new technologies and services offered by cloud directly without the help of IT. Only this time it is different: using the Cloud is much easier and faster than setting up Shadow IT. And the demand is greater due to most companies pursuing a digital transformation strategy. Finally, Cloud is ready for mass adoption by the majority, not only the early adopters.

In this presentation I will explain why this is all happening and how you in the enterprise can prepare for it.

  • 10:10 - Break

  • 10:30 - The need for a fluid data centre, what that actually means, and the hurdles in achieving this goal.

    Jonathan Leppard, Future Facilities

Maintaining a data center that is reliable and cost efficient, with the agility to accommodate shifting business demands and technological innovation, is a must. But these requirements can pull in opposing directions: focusing on efficiency may compromise flexibility, while adaptability can be inefficient. Such competing forces could have adverse effects on data center performance, andcurrently, this ever-changing business demand (which will always be part of business) is the cause for many under-performing ‘Static’ Data Centres we see today.
